Selkirk,Gimbli and Lake Winnipeg

On Wednesday we headed up to the Lake Winnipeg and Winnipeg Beach.  We stopped in Selkirk at a museum for ships that sailed the lake and the Red River.  They were fishing boats, cargo boats, passenger boats, etc... My favorite was the Bradford which was an ice breaker, or cutter boat to free other boats that get trapped in ice.  One of the boats is still being used for events like dances, etc...

From here we went to Winnipeg beach for some fish and chips and a walk on the boardwalk.  The beach was gorgeous Lake Winnipeg is huge and there is white beach all the way around.  My favorite stop was at Gimli which was settled by Vikings.  We took several pics here for the boys who studied about the Vikings last year.

We really assumed we would be avoiding heat up here, but it has been really hot.  Right around the late eighties and tomorrow ten degrees more.  But the air out here in Manitoba is drier and doesn't feel as miserable...
