Assiniboine Zoo and Park

Today we went to the Assiniboine Park Zoo which specializes in wildlife from northern Canada, especially polar bears. They currently have 11 polar bears, all of which were found as orphan cubs with little to no chance of survival. They are gradually introduced to other bears to socialize them with bears their own age and then introduced to a great zoo environment where the bears have the freedom to move through a number of areas including water, dens and open areas.

One of the things I learned is that the female polar bear buries herself in a snow cave for seven months to give birth and during this time does not eat or drink until she emerges when her cubs are ready meet the world.
They had a great variety of animals!
A turtle with personality
A powerful Musk Ox
Today was also our 43rd wedding anniversary and after the zoo, we went out for steak and ribs at Tony Roma's. Altogether, a great day!
